Dr. Carl Salembier and BXTAccelyon are pleased to present the following experts who will be speaking at the Benelux LDR Brachytherapy Conference in Antwerp:

Dr. Carl Salembier, Head of the Radiation Oncology Department at Europe Hospitals Brussels, has a major interest in the field of prostate cancer, gynaecology and breast cancer and is an experienced brachytherapist. Carl will be chairing the conference, and speaking about the merits of combined brachytherapy and EBRT, specifically focusing on the Ascende-RT trial.

Dr. Gregory Lefebvre, FEBU, is a young Urological Surgeon, based in Namur Belgium, at CHU UCL Namur and Clinique St Luc Bouge. Dr. Lefebvre's session at the conference will consider the Urologist's point of view regarding brachytherapy versus other treatments of localized prostate cancer, also looking at the current LDR Brachytherapy situation in Benelux.

Dr. Bradley R. Pieters, MD, PhD, is Head of the Brachytherapy department at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. His main field of interest is general brachytherapy with an emphasis on urologic brachytherapy, gynaecologic brachytherapy, and pediatric brachytherapy. He will discuss Primary focal brachytherapy, the rationale behind this method, its use and discuss some of the key evidence from studies such as GEC-ESTRO.

Professor Stephen Langley, Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, has an international reputation in prostate brachytherapy having successfully treated over 3,000 patients and taught the technique to over 150 consultants across Europe. He will discuss modern 4D brachytherapy techniques from a Urologist's perspective.

Mr Rick Popert, Consultant Urological Surgeon at London Bridge Hospital, specialises in the comprehensive evaluation and surgical treatment of benign and malignant prostatic disease and has carried out over 800 prostate brachytherapy cases since 2004. Mr Popert will consider the exciting new developments taking place in prostate diagnostics and imaging.

Mr Alex Rijnders is head of the Medical Physics team at the Europe Hospitals in Brussels. He has a special interest in brachytherapy physics. During his session, Dr Rijnders will discuss best practice for brachytherapy planning, including advice, tips and tricks on how to achieve the most during this stage of the procedure, the use of plug free needles and to conclude his talk, he will consider physics results from the Belgian registry.

Dr. Brian Davis, Professor of Radiation Oncology and Consultant in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota is an internationally recognised leader in the field of LDR Brachytherapy. His session will be discussing updates in LDR Brachytherapy for localised prostate cancer and evidence that supports it as an effective treatment option.

Dr. Olivier de Hertogh, CEO and Founder of OpenEyes, is a radiation oncologist and the past-president of the Belgian Association Belge of Radiation Oncology (ABRO). His session will focus on LDR Brachytherapy as a monotherapy treatment, how to master the steps for adequate patient selection and discuss the indications and toxicities for LDR brachytherapy.

Dr. Max Peters is a resident in Radiation Oncology based at the University Medical Center in Utrecht. His interest lies in MRI-guided LDR/HDR-focal therapy and focal salvage therapy for radiorecurrent prostate cancer. Dr. Peters' will focus on salvage brachytherapy for local recurrence after EBRT/brachytherapy, explaining the indications for salvage brachytherapy and how patients are evaluated for treatment.
